Notepad by Dmitry Nazarov is one of the best Android note taking apps out there. It checks off most all of the important features: offline first, fast, free, supports Markdown, inline images, linking notes, encryption, backup and restore, and tons of settings. He even has a Notepad.Lite version without Google Sync for those like me who want to be Google-free.
