A fast and relatively inexpensive bullet journal app with Android, iOS, and Web apps that sync quickly. It has room for improvement but a good start.

Amplenote

A daily journal with Jots (short notes) or detailed, linked notes using Markdown with embedded tasks that can be viewed in a calendar. Amazing!

Quillpad

A fork of Quillnote, this one is also an open-source, free, fast note-taking app with support for Markdown, images, and Nextcloud sync!

Bundled Notes

Markdown support and the ability to sync notes between devices with Kanban boards and reminders make this a top app except that its is "cloud" first.

Workflowy

A powerful and freemium outliner that is not local-first but is very fast with apps for every platform you'd need, amazing filtering abilities, and you can get your notes out at any time.

Simplenote

Really good if you're looking for an Open-Source, fast, multi-platform, note-taking app that supports Markdown, has bi-directional sync, linking of notes, and a very cool change history.

This app is incredible, launches really fast and you can start typing right away. It is local first, low-cost, supports Markdown and has a custom toolbar.

OneNote is fast, has many features, works on every platform, and synchronizes notes across all devices, for free. Export to PDF, work offline, format text, and link notes.

Noto

Noto is a minimal, free, open-source, and fast note-taking app but it does not have any Markdown support. The UI is clean and it uses a nice font which cannot be changed.

Diary is another great open-source app by retiree Bill Farmer. It has a ton of functionality including Markdown support, advanced features like tables and text highlighting, and best of all it's fast and free!
